What is the Inbound Student Exchange at UNIMAS?


The Incoming Student Exchange is a programme between UNIMAS and our exchange partner universities. If you are studying at an exchange partner institution you may be eligible to apply for the Incoming Student Exchange. When you study through the Incoming Student Exchange programme, you are studying as an exchange student from your home institution and are not required to pay tuition fees to UNIMAS. The programme aims at providing partner universities exchange students with different cultures and environments. Studying at UNIMAS will give the students the opportunity to explore the unique culture of Sarawak, as well as enhancing their academic personal experience by exposing them to the learning environment at UNIMAS, a university that is contemporary in character and forward-looking in outlook This experience will leave the students with new knowledge, cultural understanding, and having lifelong friends.

  1. Applicant must be a full time student who have completed at least 2 semesters or one year of study at partner universities that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for student exchange programme with UNIMAS.
  2. If English is not the medium of instruction in your university, students are required to fulfil the minimum language requirement as below:
  3. TOEFL - Minimum PBT = 550, CBT=230, IBT=80

    IELTS - Minimum Band 5.5

    or provide evidence of English Proficiency

  4. Incoming exchange students must prove that they have sufficient fund to support themselves while studying at UNIMAS.
  5. Incoming exchange students must abide by UNIMAS’s rules and regulations. They will be entitled to major academic resources and support services generally available to full-time students at the host institution.
  6. The minimum period of study is one (1) semester and the maximum period must not be more than one (1) year or two (2) semesters.

  8. Completed application along with all required supporting documents MUST reach UNIMAS International by mail, email or fax before the application deadline.There are two opportunities per year to apply for the Incoming Student Exchange programme:
  9. Semester One (September to December) – the closing date for applications is the 30th of June.

    Semester Two (February to June) – the closing date for applications is the 30th of November of the previous year.

If your institution is a UNIMAS Exchange Partner, you need to be nominated by your home institution to be able to apply. The applicant should fill up the INBOUND APPLICATION FORM . Incoming applicant must submit his/her application using UNIMAS student exchange programme form together with the following documents;
  1. An Approval Letter from the partner Institution/University or College (or Nomination Notification).
  2. One set of latest certified academic transcript (with translation if necessary-English preferred).
  3. Three copies (if sent by post)of passport size photos (3.5x5.0 cm) – blue background.
  4. Two copies (if sent by post)of International passport (front page) with at least 1 year of validity.
  5. One set of of Health Examination Report. (We accept any kind of report as long as it includes necessary information about the applicant's health condition).
  6. One set of Reference Letter or Recommendation letter from student’s Academic Advisor or Professor supporting the application
Once you have completed the form you need to submit it to your home university. They will send your application to UNIMAS by email with the required documents including your official transcript, nomination letter from your home university and evidence that you have met UNIMAS's English language requirements, if English is not your first language.
If you have been accepted, you will receive an email copy of your offer of a place and the Letter of offer will be issued by The Registrar of UNIMAS.
